Brookings Fire Responds to 2 Abandoned Beach Fires

Monday morning August 12th, the Brookings Fire and Rescue Department was called to Chetco Point for two abandoned campfires. Firefighters from Brookings Fire & Rescue and a Coos Forest Protection Agency engine crew made quick work extinguishing the two fires.

We would like to remind those that have fires on the beach to Please remember to make sure that if you have fires on the beach, ensure that the fire is dead out before you leave.

Don’t just bury it with sand, use water and a tool to stir the fire. Also don’t build the fire in the drift wood piles. If the wind needs to be blocked you shouldn’t be building a fire.
