Kitchen Fire Destroys Home

An unattended cooking situation in the kitchen appears to have led to a fire that destroyed a double-wide manufactured home. Upon arrival, Rural Metro Firefighters found the structure 50% involved, and the fire did not spread beyond the structure.

All occupants had escaped without injury, and an attempt by the occupants to extinguish the fire when it was first discovered was complicated by a broken garden hose.

Firefighters helped the occupants with salvaging priority contents and items of sentimental value. A fire crew from Grants Pass Department of Public Safety assisted at the scene.

This fire serves as a reminder to remain in attendance of any cooking, make sure you have a charged fire extinguisher available near an exit so that escape is possible if the fire gets too big, and to always have a working smoke alarm to provide early detection.
