National Weather Service Issues Flood Watch

An atmospheric river is forecast to bring a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rainfall from late Saturday evening through late Sunday evening especially along the coastal areas with 2 to 5 inches of rainfall expected and the heaviest rainfall amounts in the mountains.

A Flood Watch was issued for portions of southwest Oregon, including portions of Curry County and extreme Western Josephine County, including Brookings until late Sunday evening, November 15th.

Landslides and debris flows are possible during this heavy rain event. People, structures and roads located below steep slopes, in canyons and near the mouths of canyons may be at serious risk from rapidly moving landslides. There will be an increased chance for landslides. Main stem river rises are expected, and minor flooding of small creeks and streams is possible.

A Flood Watch is issued when there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
