The Azalea Lady Bruins Turn up the Defense in Final Period Against Redwood

After being on the road for the last three games, the AZ Lady Bruins played at home Monday evening after coming off the Thanksgiving break.

Splitting two games against Marshfield and Crescent Elk before the Thanksgiving break, the AZ Lady Bruins hosted Redwood Monday night, and the Redwood offense established an early lead.

The Redwood defense would put early pressure on AZ Lady Bruins, holding the Lady Bruins scoreless while running on the Lady Bruins and capitalizing on early Azalea errors.

Falling behind early, Azalea applied defensive pressure in the second quarter, while running on loose balls and rebounds, and began shooting from the outside after driving into the lane.

After the half time break, coach Kyla Siri made defensive adjustments, and the AZ Lady pressed the Redwood attack, forcing turnovers and holding Redwood to just 4 points in the period.

Going into the final period of play, the AZ Lady Bruin defense continued to turn up the pressure, holding Redwood scoreless in the 4th period to end the game.

Talking with coach Siri after the game, she told the Compass “Coming off a break is hard to play in, but the girls continue to show up and get better. I saw a lot of improvement in our rebounding efforts.” she said. “I’m excited to see how they adjust at our tournament coming up this weekend.”

Avery Hodge #23 had 3 points in the game.

The Azalea Lady Bruins will be on the road this weekend attending a tournament in North Bend Thursday.
