#2 OSAA Ranked Amity Too Much for Bruin Girls in Quarterfinals

The Bruin girls varsity soccer team made the long almost 6 hour trip to McMinnville Friday, looking to get an early start and comfort level before Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup against the #2 OSAA ranked Amity Lady Warriors scheduled for high noon, Saturday.

Both teams fought to control midfield play and establish fast break opportunities by trial and error, searching for a weakness in the others armor by continuously probing and pushing the others defensive strategy and backline defenses.

It would be Amity that would strike first, getting behind the Bruin girls defense on a through ball in the seventeenth minute to give the Lady Warriors the 0-1 lead.

But that wouldn’t be all the damage Amity would deliver in the first half of play as two Amity players would find the goal three times in the first half before the Bruin girls would find the goal on a well placed junior, Ellie Hanneman #11 corner kick that would be misplayed by the Lady Warrior keeper and score the Bruin girls goal.

With the score 1-3 to start the second of play, the Bruin girls were forced to open up their play, taking risks and creating open spaces that left the vulnerable defensively as they desperately tried to score and close the gap.

But Amity was too disciplined to get caught taking chances, and tightened their defenses while taking advantage of open spaces and scoring opportunities to score three more times in the second half, establishing a comfortable 1-6 lead in the second half to take the win and end the Bruin girls season.

“Amity is an extremely talented team with good size and speed.” head coach Brian Carlson told the Compass after the game. “and our girls showed a lot of grit and determination. We have a great group of players who represent BHHS and our community very well every time they step on the field and I couldn’t be more proud of what these young ladies achieved this season.”
