After splitting two games on the road, suffering a loss against St. Mary’s last Thursday but coming off a win against Cascade Christian in Medford on Monday, the BHHS boys varsity soccer team hosted the 1-1-1 Illinois Valley Cougars Tuesday afternoon.

Head coach John Silveira and the Bruin boys varsity soccer team focused on defense Tuesday afternoon, shutting down the Cougar offense and limiting scoring opportunities as the Bruin offense tested the Illinois Valley off-side trap, creating scoring opportunities through out the first half.

The Bruin boys offense generated plenty of shots on goal through out the first half, but forced and off-target forced shots would keep Illinois Valley in the game, until the Bruins put together a successful fast-break opportunity right up the middle that senior, Hank Flescher, #27, would push past the Cougar keeper to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead late in the first half.

Illinois Valley mounted an energetic attack to start the second half, looking to tie the score and get back in the game. But the strategy would stretch the field, leaving the midfield open, allowing the Bruins to control the midfield and mount offensive attacks.

Again it would be #27, senior, Hank Flescher, who would take the fast-break pass, splitting the Illinois Valley defense and hitting the back of the net for his second goal of the night.

But, the pressure would prove to be too much for the Cougars, who would chase down Brookings center forward, senior, Hank Flescher, #27, after putting himself in scoring position and getting fouled in the penalty box. Flescher would go on to score the penalty kick, giving the Bruins a 3-0 lead.

The Bruin boys would go on to take the win, for their second win a row.

The Bruin boys will be home next Tuesday, hosting the Lost River Pirates with kick-off scheduled at 4:30 in Merrill, Oregon.
