The 2025/26 school sports programs are weeks into their fall sports programs, and a new year of the Barron’s Home Furnishings ‘Star Student Athlete’ has begun with the second installment of this school year selected. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is a four year varsity athlete participating in the BHHS boys varsity soccer program, senior, #15, Zander Carlson, selected by head coach John Silveira for his leadership, heart, and his dedication for the Bruins this season. As a two sport varsity athlete, after soccer season, Zander also participates on head coach Luke Beaman’s boys varsity basketball program in the winter.
“Zander consistently gives 110% on the soccer field,” coach Silveira told the Compass, “He approaches every practice and game with quiet focus and determination and although he may be reserved, his actions speak volumes.”
An important part of the Barron’s Star Student Athlete program is scholastic performance, showing leadership, leading by example, competitiveness, and work ethic both in the class room as well as in the community. Zander has balanced his athletic participation carrying a 3.3 GPA carrying courses including College Algebra, Anatomy, Yearbook, Language Arts 4 and American Government & Civics.
Zander told the Compass that he plans to attend Oregon State University or Montana State after graduation because of their strong Biology and Ecology programs. “I am also looking into opportunities to play soccer competitively after high school, possibly taking a path through a junior college program.” he added.
“As Captain and team leader, Zander is the definition of dedication and heart. Academically, he continues to excel in the classroom, maintaining strong grades while balancing the demands of athletics. There’s truly nobody more deserving of recognition than him.” – head coach John Silveira
