The 2025/26 school sports programs have started and are in most cases already weeks into their fall sports programs, and a new year of the Barron’s Home Furnishings ‘Star Student Athlete’ has begun with a new installment selected. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is a four year varsity athlete participating in the BHHS girls varsity volleyball program, senior, #5, Ella Reneau, selected by head coach Vanessa Nidiffer for her leadership, competitiveness and her determination for the Bruins this season. After volleyball season ends, Ella also participates in Kara Miller’s girls varsity basketball program in the winter, and head coach Tony Baron’s girls varsity softball team in the spring.
“Ella is an exceptional athlete and volleyball player.” Bruin girls varsity volleyball head coach Nidiffer told the Compass. Ella, who has been a three sport varsity athlete since her freshman year, is now a second time selection after being selected in 2023 by head coach Tony Baron as ‘Star Student Athlete’ for her participation on the Bruins girls varsity softball team.
An important part of the Barron’s Star Student Athlete program is scholastic performance, showing leadership, leading by example, competitiveness, and work ethic both in the class room as well as in the community. Ella has balanced her athletic participation carrying a 3.2 GPA for 4 years carrying courses including Language Arts IV, Medical Terminology, College Algebra, Leadership, and American Government & Civics. Ella is also part of the BHHS senior leadership and also teaches children to as a swim instructor over the summer.
“As Captain and team leader, Ella always gives 110%.” coach Nidiffer said. On the volleyball court this season, Ella has amassed 130 kills, 140 digs, 30 aces, and 20 blocks.
Ella told the Compass that she plans to attend Eastern Oregon University after graduation to study Kinesiology in pursuit of a career as a Physical Therapist.
