Bruin Girls Soccer Dominates Illinois Valley

Junior Ellie Hanneman, #11, started the Bruin girls scoring with a powerful outside shot.

Head coach Brian Carlson and the BHHS girls varsity soccer team continues to dominate, taking apart the Illinois Valley Lady Cougars who made the trip to the coast Tuesday afternoon.

At the whistle, the Bruin girls patiently started their attack, building from the back, pushing through the midfield and attacking the goal from the front line.

Freshman defender, Iris Powers-Schmitz, #15, ending a Lady Cougar attack.

But it would be the Bruin girls midfield that would start the scoring after junior center midfielder Ellie Hanneman, took a long outside shot from the top of the penalty box to take a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game.

Senior midfielder, Avery Hodge, #7, starting the Bruin girls offense.

That opened the door for sophomore striker, #12, Sawyer Adams, who would find the back of the net herself, scoring from the top of the box five minutes later. Adams would score again just a minute and a half later, before completing her hat-trick off a #24, forward Kaiya Evans pass in front of the goal to give the Bruin girls a 4-0 lead just eighteen minutes into the first half.

Sophomore striker, Sawyer Adams, #12, working for a shot at midfield, would go on to score 4 goals in the game.

The Lady Cougars struggled to get the ball into the Bruin girls half of the field as the Bruin girl defense broke up any offensive attack before it made it to the defensive backfield, who spent much of their day clearing loose balls and starting the midfield attack.

Sophomore, Ella Christensen, #14, clearing the defensive backfield.

Sophomore forward Kaiya Evans, #24, would work the ball down the left sideline and work the ball inside to the corner of the penalty box before hitting a long shot that would find the net to give the Bruin girls a 5-0 lead late. Sawyer Adams would find the goal once more, extending the Bruin girls lead to 6-0 with seconds left in the first half.

Senior, Lexi Newman, #8, scoring on a break away down the left sideline.

Illinois Valley made adjustments during the half-time break and slowed the Bruin girls with attacks into the Bruin girls half of field. But stretching the field only exposed their defense and senior defensive back Lexi Newman, #24, would find her way into scoring position at the end of another Kaiya Evans pass that would result in a fast break Newman score.

Freshman, Brynn Honeycutt, #2, with the steal.

Now leading the Lady Cougars 7-0, Kaiya Evans would end the game, scoring again from an outside shot from the left edge of the penalty box for the Bruin girls final score to take the 8-0 win.

Sophomore forward, Kaiya Evans, #24, had two goals and two assists in the game.

The Bruin girls will be on the road this Thursday, to challenge the 3-2 Lakeview, Lady Honkers, coming off a two game win streak of their own.
