Head coach, Vanessa Nidiffer, and the Bruin girls varsity volleyball team recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month Thursday evening, hosting the Rogue River Lady Chieftains.

An energized Bruin girls team took the floor in the opening set Thursday evening, overplaying every ball and hustling their way to an early 11-5 lead. The Lady Chieftains would rally back to within 5 midway through the set but the Bruin girls would tighten the defense on their way to a 25-11 first set win.

The Bruin girls did not take their foot off the gas in the second set, again, taking an 10-3 early lead. The Lady Chieftains had no answer for seniors Ella Reneau, #5, and #12 Sahara Sankoh at the net, and a scrambling Rogue River team was not enough to slow the Bruin girls offense from taking the second set 25-15.

The third set had the Bruin girls again setting a pace that would challenge Rogue River to keep up, jumping out to a comfortable 11-4 lead. The Lady Chieftains would put together two short rallies, but the big lead would prove to be too much as the Bruin girls would take the lopsided set, and the match in straight sets.

“Tonight was a great team effort.” head coach Vanessa Nidiffer said after the match. “We wanted to cut down on our serving errors and keep the energy up on our side of the net and I think we accomplished that. Ella had some awesome kills and Raina did very well in the back row and everyone contributed to the win.”

“The girls love to participate in our annual Pink night by raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness and I’m always impressed with their contribution to the community.” coach Nidiffer told the Compass. “We appreciate everyone who supported us with this evening’s ‘DIG for a CURE’ fundraiser and this year’s volleyball team will donate over $1000 to a local organization to support this cause.”

The Bruin girls will be on the road Tuesday, traveling to Medford to challenge the Lakeview Lady Honkers at the neutral location at St. Mary’s High School with the first serve set for 5:30pm.
