According to reports after Tuesday July 29th’s massive 8.8 earthquake off the eastern Russian coast, which ranked 6th all time since earthquakes were recorded, Crescent City Harbor received one of the highest measured tsunami surges during the event.
Early Wednesday morning July 30th, Crescent City Harbor experienced and recorded surges up to 4ft. on top of a 4ft. high tide, the largest surge recorded in the state of California with the Hawaiian Islands recording the largest a surge in the U.S. at 5.7ft.
Although there were no reports of flooding throughout Crescent City, waves caused significant damage to the H dock in the Crescent City Harbor, very early Wednesday morning.
