Del Norte High School Campus Safety Protocols Implemented for the Second Time in Less Than Two Weeks

For the second time in less than two weeks, school staff implemented safety protocols and placed the Del Norte High School campus in a secure status after an individual carrying an axe was observed near the edge of Del Norte High School grounds early Friday afternoon, March 6th.

Early Friday afternoon, March 16th, Del Norte High School initiated a secure campus once again in response to a threat received by phone, and contacted Del Norte County Dispatch regarding the threatening statement.

To ensure student and staff safety the Del Norte High School campus was secured as the Crescent City Police Department responded immediately to investigate the reported threat.

While officers were investigating the incident, Del Norte County Dispatch was contacted by an out-of-state law enforcement agency reporting that similar threatening calls had been received in their jurisdiction and it was determined that the calls appeared to be part of a pattern of false reports involving threats to schools in multiple states.

Just after 1:30pm, Monday afternoon, based on information obtained during the investigation, it was determined that there was no longer a credible threat to Del Norte High School and students had been released from school.
