Early Saturday afternoon, August 16th, a 911 phone call was received from a residence on Laurel Road, Cave Junction just after 1:30pm.
It was reported that a dog had attacked a four-year-old female. Deputies responded to the scene as well as personnel from American Medical Response and the Illinois Valley Fire Department.
Despite lifesaving measures performed, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The child’s name will not be released.
The Sheriff’s Office began a death investigation with the assistance of personnel from the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. The dog, a Cane Corso/Rottweiler/Pitt Bull mix was taken into custody by Animal Control personnel.
This case is still under investigation and no further information is currently available.
