Man Arrested After Swinging an Axe and Threatening to Stab the Victim

Officers from the Central Point Police Department responded to a call Thursday afternoon, after receiving a report of a subject menacing another subject in a home on Laurel Street.

Officers were advised in route to the address that the suspect was swinging an axe and threatening to stab the victim.

When officers arrived the victim was located outside of the residence, and it was determined the suspect was in the home. Several attempts were then made to communicate with the suspect, but he would not talk to officers and refused to willingly come out of the residence.

The suspect cut off all communication with those on scene after becoming more uncooperative with officers as the incident progressed.

A search warrant was obtained and executed during the investigation after it was learned that there was a protection order in place preventing the suspect from having contact with the victim at the residence.

The suspect, identified as 52 year old Jedediah Burrell, was located inside the residence. He was extremely hostile and officers had to engage the subject with the use of a Taser to take him into custody.   After being checked at the scene by medical personnel and then transported to a local hospital for medical clearance.

The suspect was lodged at the Jackson County Jail for Menacing, Violation of a Release Agreement, Disorderly Conduct II, and Resisting Arrest.
