Just before 1:00pm, early Friday afternoon, an individual carrying an axe was observed near the edge of Del Norte High School grounds during student dismissal.
Out of an abundance of caution, school staff implemented safety protocols and placed the campus in a brief Secure status while the situation was assessed.
Law enforcement was immediately notified and responded to the area. The individual was later located and detained by law enforcement outside of Del Norte Community School.
At no time did the individual enter any school buildings, and all students and staff remained safe throughout the situation.
The Secure status at Del Norte High School was lifted shortly after officers arrived.
