Head coach John Silveira and the Bruin varsity boys soccer team started their season hosting the Pacific/Bandon Pirates Tuesday afternoon in a non-league preseason match-up.
The Pirates would strike first finding the back of the net to take an early 0-1 lead just minutes into the first half.

After the first goal, a mid-field battle broke out with fierce play between the penalty boxes as both teams fought for ball possession and control.

The Bruins offense worked to put together a series of passes attempting to break the Pirates offside trap, ultimately creating a loose ball situation in front of the Pacific goal that would find the foot of junior Jayce Petersen-Salcido, to tie the game at 1-1 22:00 minutes into the first half.

The second half began as the first half ended with much of the game played between the penalty boxes as both teams pushed the other defensively looking for weaknesses and opportunity.

It would be a defensive mistake on a Pacific corner-kick that got past the front post and rolled over the end line to give the Pirates a 1-2 lead.

Even though most of second half play was in the Pirates half of the field, the Bruins would fail to capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities, getting unlucky with a shot hitting the crossbar.
The Bruins have another non-league match-up on the road scheduled for next week, taking on North Valley next Thursday, September 11th, with kick-off at 4:30pm in Grants Pass.
