Very early Wednesday morning, July 30th, as low-lying areas of Del Norte County and Crescent City were evacuating under Tsunami “Warning” status issued by the National Weather Service, Crescent City Police Officers were responded to reports of a burglary at Local Boys Surf Shop located on 2nd Street in Crescent City at around 2:25am.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that two suspects had broken a window to enter the business and steal a skateboard and possibly other items.

Although surveillance footage was obtained, the suspects took measures to conceal their faces during the commission of the crime and officers began attempting to identify the suspects. Pictures of the suspects were posted by several pages on Facebook in an attempt to have the community assist in identifying them.
Later that same day, at approximately 7:45pm, Wednesday evening, an alert employee at the Tractor Supply Company in Crescent City, reported to Crescent City Police Department that one of the burglary suspects was possibly currently in their store.
Crescent City Police Officers responded and upon arrival observed the subject, identified as 27 year old Waylon Willburn, actively stealing items from Tractor Supply.
While allegedly stealing items from Tractor Supply, officers were also able to identify several items that Willburn was wearing as items in the surveillance footage of the original burglary and was in possession of the stolen skateboard from Local Boys Surf Shop.

Willburn was arrested for felony burglary of Local Boys Surf Shop the night prior, as well as misdemeanor shoplifting at Tractor Supply.
On Friday, August 1st, Crescent City Police Officers located the second subject, identified as 27 year old Anthony Degler, who was believed to be involved in the burglary at Local Boys Surf Shop. During their interview and further investigation Degler was arrested for Conspiracy, and Burglary, as well as his other outstanding warrants he had for his arrest at the time.
Both Degler and Willburn were lodged in the Del Norte County Jail.
This is still an active investigation as evidence points towards a possible third subject who was acting as a lookout during the burglary.
