U.S Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay Air Station was dispatched to reports of an 11 Year-Old-Girl swept off the beach at Big Lagoon State Park Thursday afternoon just north of Trinidad California.

Upon the U.S Coast Guard’s arrival, after flying through low fog at 150 feet, they found State Lifeguards were already out assisting the girl outside the 8 foot breaking waves. The crew jettisoned fuel offshore to arrive at hoisting weight and deployed the rescue swimmer in a free fall from 15 feet in the 8 foot swell.
The rescue swimmer worked with the California state lifeguard to safely put the girl in the rescue basket. The rescue swimmer performed a double pick up with the survivor in the basket and safely delivered her to awaiting EMS at the Big Lagoon State Park lot.
Multiple Humboldt Agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office, Fire Crews, Lifeguards, Police Crews, all worked great together to vector in the helicopter crew and provided a safe landing area for patient transfer.
