Citations Issued for After Kittens Abandoned

Last Thursday evening, July 25th, Curry County Sheriff John Ward went on social media asking the community to help identify who had dropped off three kittens about 7 to 8 weeks old on the north jetty of the Rogue River in Gold Beach. “I don’t understand why some people abandon helpless animals. I hope someone recognizes these kittens and come forward to let us know who dropped them off on the north jetty of the Rogue to fend for themselves.” he wrote.

There were three kittens about 7 to 8 weeks old. Two greys with white spots and one black and white. Wild Rivers Animal Rescue was full and couldn’t immediately take them. In the interim, a dispatcher volunteered to care for them until they find a home.

According to Sheriff Ward, with cooperation from his Curry County Friends, the Sheriff was given information about who may have dumped off the kittens. Those people were contacted, and it was discovered that not only did they drop off three kittens, they also had dropped off a male cat the day before.

The Sheriff issued three of those people involved citations for Animal Abandonment which is a Class B Misdemeanor. The three kittens have all have found good homes. The whereabouts of the male cat that they had dumped off at the same place is not known at this time.
