Hwy. 101 Crash Takes a Life

Late Friday afternoon, a vehicle traveling northbound on Hwy. 101 just south of Crescent City, struck a tree and left the roadway.

According to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle struck a tree at about 4:00 pm, left the roadway and traveled approximately 40 feet down an embankment.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old girl from Klamath suffered fatal injuries and a helicopter was requested as others were reportedly injured in the crash. The extent of the injuries to others was not known at the time.

A 17-year-old Klamath girl died in a crash on Highway 101 Friday, south of Crescent City around 4 p.m., according to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office (DNSO).

The vehicle hit a tree while traveling northbound, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The reports from CHP said they sent a helicopter to the scene because the car went down a 40-foot embankment, and others were reportedly injured. However, the extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
