Rogue Robbery Suspect Arrested

John Hall Cleaves, a 44 year old Portland resident was arrested by officers Wednesday evening at approximately 6:15.

According to an official press release by the City of Brookings Police Department, after the Robbery at the Rogue Credit Union, Brookings Police Officers assisted by Oregon State Police and Curry County Sheriff’s Office canvassed the area in search of witnesses, evidence or video surveillance that may lead to suspect identification.

Loss Prevention Officers at the nearby Fred Meyer store alerted law enforcement to suspicious clothing found in the men’s restroom. Upon examination, it was determined the clothing was likely left behind by the Robbery suspect and he was now wearing new clothing from Fred Meyer.

Brookings Police Officers visited local businesses and motels showing photos taken from the bank’s surveillance cameras.  At about 6:00 pm, when shown the photograph of the robbery suspect a motel clerk advised the man in the photo had recently checked in, paying in cash.

Officers made contact and at about 6:15 pm, and arrested John Hall Cleaves for Robbery in the 2nd Degree and Theft in the 1st Degree. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of some of the stolen property from the Rogue Credit Union.

Cleaves was lodged in the Curry County Jail with recommended charges of Robbery in the 2nd Degree and Theft in the 1st Degree.
