37 Pounds of Marijuana Seized After Armed Robbery

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two Washington, D.C., men Thursday after a report of an armed robbery at a residence near Ashland. Jelani Amaan Johnson and Orlando Hugh Rickman, both 27, were lodged in the Jackson County jail on charges of first-degree robbery.

On May 17, 2018, at 5:14 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery in the 1200-block of North Mountain Avenue.  The victims reported being robbed at gunpoint by three suspects who stole marijuana and fled in two vehicles.  Nobody was injured.

Police spotted one of the vehicles driving north on Interstate 5. An Oregon State Police trooper stopped the vehicle at the Chevron station near exit 33 in Central Point.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies and personnel from other law enforcement agencies responded.

Johnson and Rickman were taken into custody without incident.

The suspect vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, was seized and later searched with a warrant. Detectives found 37 pounds of marijuana and additional evidence.

The case remains under investigation. Detectives are working to identify and locate the third suspect, as well as the second suspect vehicle. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective Jason Penn at (541) 774-6800.
