Best Beaches Southern Oregon

Winchuck beach

Located about 10 miles south of Brookings Oregon, Winchuck beach is located at the outlet of the Winchuck River just off highway 101. With access from the Chrissy Fields visitor center, a short hike to the beach reveals a wide open expansive relatively flat beach usually piled high with driftwood on the shore. A great place for long leisurely strolls on a sunny day, or just to relax on the driftwood stacks and admire the views.

Whaleshead beach

Located about 15 miles north of Brookings Oregon, a short relatively easy walk, reveals a beach that opens up to a rugged scene of sea stacks surrounded by high bluffs of dense forest. The location was given its name because of the “whale spout” that can be spotted just off shore. The largest sea stack at the beach, when hit with the right wave, will spray a large stream of misty water that resembles a whale spout.

Harris Beach

Harris Beach in northern Brookings Oregon is interestingly named after the Scottish pioneer George Harris. Famously known to be the home of “Bird Island”, a National Wildlife Sanctuary and breeding ground for many species of coastal bird species. What not commonly known, is that Bird Island is also the largest island off of the Oregon Coast.

Battery Point

Battery Point is a rocky outpost located right in Crescent City. At low tide, the beach connects to a small rocky point that features one of the most picturesque light houses on any coast. This really is a two for one beach visit, as paved paths take you right to Harbor Beach which features a long flat beach teaming with coastal birds and scenic views of the harbor.

Pebble Beach

This beach is again located in the heart of Crescent City California. All along Pebble Beach Drive are many turnouts and plenty of parking to explore the rugged southern most portion and continuing north to the expansive flat beaches that are a great place to view Castle Rock National Wildlife Refuge. This island is a great offshore bird and sea lion watching spot and features some of the best tide pool exploring found in the area.
