Riot Declared as Portland is Looted and Burned

Multiple businesses were broken into, looted, and set afire when unrest broke out after a George Floyd demonstration.

Protesters marched from the original demonstration site just after 11:00pm and according to the Portland Police Department “attacked” the downtown location of the Multnomah County Justice Center containing the downtown jail and police precinct. The crowd then proceeded to break windows, attempt entry and set fire to the building as workers were inside.

The situation quickly escalated as large fires were set in downtown intersections bringing downtown traffic to a standstill while large groups of angry demonstrators ravaged businesses and personal property and people trapped in vehicles.

Fire crews responded to a fire at Capital One bank downtown after demonstrators could be seen entering the building with flares.

Downtown buildings and property were spray painted as people were seen smashing windows at Starbucks, Microsoft, Apple, Verizon, Louis Vuitton, and several downtown banks. Just before midnight, the Portland Police declared the situation a riot as groups continued to shatter windows and loot other downtown businesses.
