Two Inmates Apprehended after Leaving Facility

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials apprehended two minimum-security inmates who walked away from the California Correctional Center Eel River Conservation Camp in Humboldt County on Friday evening March 27th, according to a press release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

During an inmate count at around 9:45pm on March 27, staff discovered 29 year old inmate Derek Barnett, 28 year old Noah Wilson, were not in their assigned bunks. A search of the camp buildings and grounds was immediately conducted. The men were last seen at approximately 8:30 p.m. Both were wearing grey sweat shirts, grey sweat pants and white tennis shoes.

Following investigative leads, special agents from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation arrested 29 year old Derek Barnett at about 11:00am as he was exiting an apartment complex in Ukiah, California. He was taken into custody without incident and will be transported to a CDCR facility. CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety Special Services Unit was assisted by CDCR’s Criminal Intelligence Unit, the Ukiah Police Department and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department.

Also arrested was Harley Colvard of Ukiah for four outstanding felony warrants. Colvard also will face charges of aiding and abetting in the escape of inmates and harboring a fugitive.

Agents developed further information regarding a vehicle being used by the second inmate, 28 year old Noah Wilson. At 4:35pm, the California Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop off Interstate 5 south of Fort Tejon. Wilson was inside the car and officers arrested him without incident. The Rancho Cucamonga Special Services Unit also assisted in Wilson’s apprehension.
