At approximately 8:30pm Sunday evening a rockslide occurred on Hwy. 101 about 12 to 15 miles outside of Crescent City.

Within minutes the rockslide had consumed both north and southbound lanes of Hwy. 101 and CalTrans initially began hold traffic on each side of the slide.

However, upon further observation, CalTrans and the CHP have closed Hwy. 101 in both directions as of just after 10:00pm Sunday night.

Just before 10:30pm Sunday night it was reported that boulders and debris were continuing to slide into the area and officials stated that Hwy. 101 would remain closed until Monday morning for further evaluation.
