After dropping the first game in the three game series with a very strong Cascade Christian team at Cascade Christian, the Bruin boys varsity baseball team finished the three game series in Brookings Friday.
In the first game of the afternoon, coach Wallin sent #30, Colton Burger to the mound to take on the powerful Cascade Christian offense, and the Challengers wasted no time putting up three runs in the second inning while shutting out Bruin batting in the first two innings.
The Bruin offense struggled to put any offense together managing to get on the board in the third inning as the Challengers scored two more runs in the top of the third inning, extending their lead to 1-5 after three.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth, but in the top of the fifth, Cascade Christian put up six runs in the inning to put the game out of reach, extending the Challengers thirteen game win streak.
However, the second game was a different story as the Bruins jumped out early on the Challengers, putting up four runs in the first after Bruins pitcher, #7, Lincoln Rosenberg allowed only one run in the top of the inning.
Rosenberg would sit the Cascade Christian batters down in the top of the second before the Bruins added another run in the bottom of the inning, giving the Bruins a 5-1 lead.
Rosenberg shut the Challengers out for the next five innings as Bruin bats added two more runs in the fourth, putting the ball in play and forcing six Cascade Christian errors in the game as the Bruin boys would go on to end the extensive Cascade Christian win streak, taking the 7-2 win.
“Our guys did a great job today of being patient.” coach Wallin told the Compass after the game. “That’s a very good team they beat today and to do it after getting beat in game 1 shows how mentally tough we can be if we want to be. This group has grown a ton and we’re looking forward to finishing strong and getting into the playoffs.”
The Bruins will finish their 2025 season at home Tuesday, taking on Bandon with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30pm.
