Large Earthquake Strikes Off the Alaskan Peninsula Wednesday Afternoon

A very strong earthquake struck off the Alaskan peninsula Wednesday, July 16th, near Sandpoint, Alaska at approximately 1:37pm.

The 7.3 magnitude quake was accompanied by more than 15 smaller quakes ranging from 3.0 to 5.2 in magnitude into early Wednesday evening.

An immediate Tsunami warming was issued from south Alaska and the Alaska penninsula, including Pacific coasts from Kennedy Entrance, Alaska (40 miles SW of Homer) to Unimak Pass, Alaska (80 miles NE of Unalaska), which were later rescinded.
