U.S. Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay dispatched to reports of a fishing vessel that had lost steering in the surf zone a half mile south of the Humboldt Bay Jetty, and were in distress and taking on water just after midnight, Monday, July 28th.

The 37-foot commercial fishing vessel identified as the “Miss Jessie”, had 5 crew members aboard one of whom had contacted Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay watchstanders by radio requesting assistance after the vessel became disabled in the surf and ran aground.
An urgent marine information broadcast was immediately issued by Humboldt Bay watchstanders and coordinated launches of an Air Station Humboldt Bay MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and a Station Humboldt Bay 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew were initiated.

The helicopter aircrew arrived on scene at 1:27am, hoisted all five people off the vessel and transported them to the Samoa Field Airport over two separate trips.
The vessel’s fuel tanks have a maximum capacity of 7,000 gallons, and there is an estimated 800 gallons of diesel onboard.
No injuries or pollution have been reported.
