Late Sunday afternoon, August 10th, U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders received a report from a 40ft. commercial fishing vessel that had capsized while entering Yaquina Bay.
According to reports, the 40-foot fishing vessel Das Bug based out of Newport, with four people onboard, was returning to harbor while experiencing 7-foot swells and 13 knot winds at the end of the Dungeness crab season, when it took on water and capsized transiting inbound through the Yaquina Bay Jetty at approximately 4:00pm Friday afternoon.
Motor Lifeboat crews from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay and an MH-65 Dolphin crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, three individuals were rescued from the water by a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay and transferred to emergency medical services before being treated for hypothermia.
An MH-65 Dolphin crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend conducted Sunday evening searches and a first light search Monday morning for the missing individual for over eight hours, covering a total of 54 square miles with no signs of the missing individual prior to suspension of the search.
