Bruin girls varsity soccer was home Tuesday, hosting the 3-2 Lost River Lady Pirates who made the four hour trip to the coast on a very wet and stormy Tuesday afternoon.
With steady rain and a 3:00pm start, the Bruin girls took the field against the Lady Pirates who brought a very well organized team to Brookings, and were ready to challenge the undefeated Bruin girls.

The Lady Pirates proved very capable of controlling and possessing the ball to control their offensive attack and much of the first half of play consisted of midfield battle that allowed occasional attacks in front of both teams goals.
That would culminate in Bruin girls foul in the box, sending the Lady Pirates to the penalty spot for a penalty kick 27:00 minutes into the first half that would be converted by Lost River, giving them a 0-1 lead with minutes left in the first half.

After the Bruin girls had worked their way into multiple scoring opportunities with zero results in the first half and trailing for the first time at the half time break, a determined Bruin girls team came out in the second half attacking the Lady Pirate defense relentlessly while keeping play in the Lost River half of the field.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Bruin girls worked their way to a corner-kick that junior midfielder Ellie Hanneman would put in the center of the Lady Pirate goal box, finding the head of freshman, #15, Iris Powers-Schmitz and then the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
This opened the door for the Bruin girls offense starting with sophomore striker, #12, Sawyer Adams, who would get possession of the ball in the center of the field and bury a shot from outside the penalty box, giving the Bruin girls their first lead of the game 11:00 minutes into the second half.

Adams would then find herself in the same situation just minutes later, again striking from the top of the penalty box securing the Bruin girls 2-1 lead.
Sophomore forward #24, Kaiya Evans, worked the ball down the right sideline into the box and found the back of the net midway through the second of play extending the Bruin girls lead to 4-1.

After the Bruin girls had clearly gained control of the game and continued to pressure the Lost River defense, frustration fouls by the Lady Pirates earn the Bruin girls a penalty kick of their own after Evans was fouled in the box, that the Bruin girls would capitalize on to take the 5-1 win.
The Bruin girls will be on the road this Thursday, traveling to Grants Pass to challenge the 1-5 North Valley Lady Knights with kick-off scheduled for 4:30pm.
