Man Arrested After Firing Multiple Shots in Medford Neighborhood

A suspect was arrested by Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday evening, September 30th, after a handgun was recklessly fired striking multiple houses and unoccupied vehicles in a neighborhood in south Medford.

Late Tuesday evening, multiple agencies including the Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, Phoenix Oregon Police Department, and City of Talent Police Department.responded after a large number of calls regarding a man walking down Northridge Terrace shooting a gun. it was reported that dispatchers could hear gunshots in the background while taking the calls and another caller reported the window of their residence being shot out.at approximately 10:32pm.  

The suspect, 24 year old Chase Benjamin Smith, of Medford, was located by deputies in an apartment on Northridge Terrace and took him into custody without incident. Subsequently, a search warrant was obtained by deputies, and the firearm used in the incident was recovered during the execution of the search warrant.

Smith has been lodged in the Jackson County Jail on multiple charges including five counts of unlawful use of a firearm, two counts of reckless endangering, first-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree disorderly conduct.

There were no reported injuries and the case remains open and active. There is no further information available for release.
