Moon Complex Growth Slows Considerably, Burning 19,349 Total Acres

The Moon Complex, comprising of six fires which are part of a September 3rd, lightning event in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest approximately 11 miles northeast of Agness, Oregon, has now consumed 19,349 total acres of timber, closed, timber litter, and hardwood litter.

Firefighters are seeing a 10% containment As of the latest update Friday, October 3rd, the fire is reportedly 10% contained, and after several days of precipitation, growth has slowed considerably and has grown only slightly in the past twenty-four hours.

Firefighters are taking advantage of decreased fire behavior to work directly at the fire’s edge, strengthening existing fire lines and finding opportunities to build new line in critical areas of the fire’s perimeter. 

All Level 3 (GO NOW!) evacuation orders have been lifted.A Level 2 (BE SET!) evacuation order is in place from Tacoma Rapids (River Mile 29) to the Oak Flat Area, including Agness; and southwest from Spud Road and the Rogue River, bordered on the northwest by Forest System Road 33 (Agness Road) and ending at Forest System Road 3318.

One structure has been reportedly lost. About 125 homes are considered still threatened, along with 3 non-residential commercial properties.

Fire Officials are reporting a total of 831 personnel along with 19 crews, 9 helicopters, and 10 engines. These resources are under the management of the Northwest Team 7.

Fire-weakened trees and other debris are creating significant hazards to firefighters and equipment.

Helicopter water dipping operations are very active in multiple sites along the Rogue River, dropping 60,000 gallons yesterday. Two Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones) were active in surveillance.
