Azalea Bruin Football Dominates Myrtle Point

Head coach Mike Hamilton and his Azalea 8th grade football team was home hosting Myrtle Point Wednesday evening after being on the road the past two weeks.

In the first quarter, the Azalea Bruin defense made it clear that the Myrtle Point Bobcats were going to struggle to move the ball offensively, spending much of the time in the Cats backfield disrupting their quarterback, and stopping their first two offensive possessions.

It wouldn’t be until late in the first quarter that the Azalea Bruin offense would score themselves, when #80, Beckham Katavich broke away for a 30 yard gain on a sweep to the right followed by another 15 yard run before getting into the endzone for the Azalea Bruins and a 6-0 lead.

In the second half, the Azalea Bruins put together another offensive drive setting up a pass play that #33, Marcus Devereaux, would turn into a 45 yard touchdown giving the Bruins a 12-0 lead.

The Azalea Bruin defense would not let Myrtle Point gather any momentum offensively, forcing the Cats to punt or forcing  Myrtle Point turn-overs.

Marcus Devereaux, #33, finding the edge, had two touchdowns in the game.

Azalea would drive late in the fourth, again putting together a long drive before finding the endzone once again on a #80, Beckham Katavich run with just 3:47 left in the game.

“Our defense never let their foot off the accelerator, forcing Myrtle Point to punt multiple times and not allowing them to score.” coach Hamilton said after the game. “It’s exciting to these students study the opposing team and executing a game plan, and we plan to continue this success next week when we host Coffenberry.”

The Azalea Bruins will host the Coffenberry Hornets next Wednesday at Bruin stadium.
