As preseason play begins for winter sports programs, head coach Kara Morris and her 3-0 girls varsity basketball team hosted the 2-2 Myrtle Point Lady Bobcats in a preseason match-up Friday evening.

The first period set the pace as frenetic defense by the Bruin girls kept the Lady Bobcats scrambling to keep pace early as the Bruin girls took advantage, taking an early 10-2 lead midway through the first period. Myrtle Point struggled to keep pace as the Bruin girls challenged every Lady Bobcat shot on their way to a 12 point, 18-6 lead.

In the second period, Myrtle Point settled down, hitting baskets in the paint and keeping play alive challenging loose balls, scoring 5 points to start the second period holding the Bruin girls to just 6 points. Myrtle Point would hit for 5 more points to finish the second period as the Bruin girls extended their lead to 30-16 to end the half.

The Lady Bobcats came out in the third period looking to get some quick points to close the gap, but the Bruin girls full court press made it a difficult choice, holding the Lady Bobcats to just 6 points in the period, as the Bruin girls ran up an eighteen point lead after scoring 13 points the third period.

Sitting on a 43-22 lead to start the fourth period, the Bruin girls continued to run off of turnovers from their press defense scoring 9 points in the period as the Lady Bobcats struggled to score against the Bruin girls press as the Bruin girls took the 54-36 win.

The Bruin girls will be participating in a couple preseason tournaments before their next preseason home game next year, Monday, January 5th, 2026.
