Two Individuals Found Unresponsive in Running Vehicle, Leaving One Dead and Sending One to the Hospital

According to a Monday, December 29th Curry County Sheriff’s Office press release, on Saturday, December 27,  Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding vehicle and trailer were off the side of the road just north of Port Orford.

Dispatch notified the Sixes River Fire Department that a white Dodge Ram pulling a Cargo trailer was off the side of Airport Road, in the Sixes area before the fire department arrived on scene and reported that the engine had been running for over an hour and a half and that there were two subjects in the vehicle that were unresponsive.

Cal Ore Life Flight Ambulance was paged as CPR was initiated to the male driver by a Sixes River Fire Department volunteer, who was first to arrive on scene and was able to get Lewis out of the truck and onto the ground.

The female passenger, later identified as 50 year old Sandra Lewis, was gasping for air and a couple of good Samaritans driving by assisted in getting Lewis out of the truck and into a recovery position.

Cal Ore Life Flight arrived, taking over CPR. Lewis was transported to Southern Coos Hospital in Bandon and was then transferred to River Bend Hospital in Springfield and has been reported to be in stable condition. Carlson was pronounced deceased at 12:55pm.

Drug items were seized by Curry County Sheriff’s deputies after and later tested after a visual search of Carlson’s truck. Some items tested positive for methamphetamine, and one item tested positive for fentanyl.
