Very early Sunday morning, January 11th, a distress call was received by U.S. Coast Guard sector Columbia River watchstanders regarding a commercial fishing vessel in distress at Paradise Point, near Port Orford.

Multiple agencies including Sixes River Volunteer Fire Department, the Port Orford Fire Department, Sixes River Fire search and rescue dive team, and an aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard responded to reports of the 67′ commercial F/V Texas Lady out of Charleston, stranded on the beach with three crew members and two dogs aboard.

One crew member reportedly self extricated into the dangerous surf before members of the Sixes River Fire search and rescue dive team helped rescue the two dogs.

The U.S. Coast Guard aircrew, dealing with a vessel pitching wildly in the surf, then maneuvered into position and extracted the two remaining crew members to safety.

How or why the vessel became grounded in the surf has not been determined, however, Paradise Point has been closed at the entrance as salvage and clean up of the vessel has already begun.
