Early Wednesday evening, January 21st, the Grants Pass Police Department received a 911 call from a residence on NE A Street regarding a disturbance in the background heard by calltakers while on the phone with the resident at approximately 8:30pm.
Upon arrival of officers to the scene, a 39 year old male resident was found to have been stabbed in the upper body.
The male had significant injuries and Grants Pass Fire/Rescue and American Medical Response personnel responded to provide medical treatment before transporting the male to Three Rivers Medical Center where he is expected to recover.
Due to the seriousness of the case, the Grants Pass Major Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation around 9:00pm and detectives worked throughout the night until early morning to ensure a timely and effective investigation.
As a result of their work, a 42 year old female, identified as Heidi Smith, was taken into custody. and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges including Assault in the 2nd Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
