The Azalea boys basketball team was home Monday evening, hosting Driftwood, who traveled down the coast from Port Orford to take on the Bruin boys.

The Azalea boys started the first period setting a fast pace with a full court press that pinned Driftwood in their defensive end. With Driftwood unable to get out of their own half, the Azalea boys took advantage of early opportunities taking a 12-2 lead early before stretching that lead to 22, taking a 24-2 lead after the first period.

Driftwood struggled with the Azalea boys full court press which forced Driftwood turnovers, creating fast break opportunities and quick points, however, the Driftwood boys fought through the pressure trying to keep pace with the Azalea boys who continued to take advantage of scoring opportunities to take a 44-6 lead into the half.

Trailing by double digits to start the second half of play, Driftwood adjusted their gameplan during the break and applied pressure of their own, challenging Azalea shots and running on Azalea mistakes and miscues that created scoring opportunities for Driftwood, allowing them to put some points on the board as Gold Beach ended the third period leading 52-13.

In the fourth period, the Bruin boys strung together a few more baskets, hitting for 10 points in the fourth, while holding Driftwood scoreless in the period, going on to take the 61-13 win.
The Azalea boys basketball team are scheduled to be on the road in North Bend Wednesday evening.
