As winter sports programs enter their final weeks, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

This weeks selection, chosen by Bruin boys varsity basketball coach, Luke Beaman, is senior center, #32, Patrick Hatch, now finishing his third year on the Bruin varsity team.
Patrick has participated as a three sport varsity athlete, starting as a Captain on the Bruins Cross Country Team for coach Fulton in the fall, as a Captain on coach Beaman’s Bruin boys varsity basketball team in the winter, as well as Captain for coach Fulton on the Bruins boys varsity Track and Field in the spring, after working his way to leadership roles on all three varsity teams with his hard work and dedication.

“I chose Patrick Hatch for his exceptional leadership skills and his outstanding involvement both on and off the court …” coach Beaman told the Wild Coast Compass. “as well as his dominance on the court, averaging 13.2 points per game with 3.1 assists and an impressive 9.1 rebounds with 2.8 blocks per game.”

While playing three varsity sports and carrying multiple college level classes, Patrick has maintained a cumulative 3.94 GPA, carrying courses including Body Structure & Functions Science, College Lit & Comp, Orchestra, Creative Writing, Sea Breeze, Economics as he intends to attend the University of Oregon or Oregon State University in pursuit of a degree in Mathematics with plans to become a high school math teacher.

Community service and school participation are also an important quality considered in the selection of the Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’ and Patrick checks those boxes with community service projects through his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is Captain of the Bruins Knowledge Bowl Team, and is the Orchestra Concertmaster, while performing with Sea Breeze.
