A Clear, Cold and Foggy Start to New Year

High pressure will bring a stable air mass to the area Tuesday through Thursday. Low temperatures will lower down into the 20s and low 30s for valleys west of the Cascades and will lower into the 5 to 20 degree range for areas East of the Cascades.

Medford:

The coldest temperatures are expected Tuesday morning. Valley fog is expected for areas west of the Cascades and may be dense and cause slippery roads, at times. Use low beam headlights, slow down, and allow extra distance when braking. Many valleys in Jackson and Josephine counties will see trapped pollutants increase Tuesday through Thursday.

Slippery roads are possible tonight into Monday morning. This evening continued isolated to scattered rain showers for areas west of the Cascades are expected. Any lingering moisture on roadways may freeze as temperatures lower below freezing tonight.

Also, areas of freezing fog may develop tonight. These conditions may create slippery or icy roads for some areas west of the Cascades. Over the mountains and east of the Cascades, slippery roads are possible due to snow on roads or snow which melted during the day and then re-freezes.

Black ice is difficult to see and makes roads very slippery, especially bridges and overpasses. Be prepared for icy roads. Slow down and allow extra time for travel.
