Air Quality Advisories Issued as Temperatures Begin to Warm Again Inland

Widespread smoke trapped south of the Rum Creek fire near Galice Oregon and the Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire east of Eureka has affected much of the southern Oregon and northern California regions since Friday, most significantly affecting those communities immediately south of the of the Rum Creek fire including Galice, Western Merlin, Selma and Cave Junction and southward down the Hwy. 199 corridor to Illinois Valley.

As a result, Air Quality Advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for much of southern Oregon through Thursday.

A building ridge of high pressure pushing into the region is expected to bring hot temperatures back to the region once again, however, the influence of smoke will reduce the chances of reaching 100+ degrees for interior valleys, however, that same smoke could hold afternoon heat in keeping temperatures warmer overnight. Widespread smoke under mostly clear skies is expected inland, with high temperatures reaching the low 100’s.

Coastal areas will continue to see smokey skies with patchy localized early morning fog developing in low lying areas. Cloudy skies are expected to develop as the high pressure system off-shore pushes high level clouds into the area keeping afternoon highs relatively low with high temperatures consistently in the mid 60’s through out the week.
