Azalea Bruin Boys Basketball Handle Myrtle Point

Coming off a win against Gold Beach earlier in the week, the Azalea Bruin boys basketball team hosted Myrtle Point Thursday evening.

Sebastian Ovlera, #4, driving to the basket.

Myrtle Point started the game attempting to defensively press the Azalea Bruin boys, run off of Bruin mistakes and establish itself inside. But the Bruin boys worked their way through the early pressure, building a five point lead midway through the first period. The Bruin boys maintained their early lead to finish the first period with a 15-11 lead.

#42, Jesus Reynoso, driving baseline.

In the second period, the Bruin boys tightened their defense, holding Myrtle Point to just one basket while offensively putting up eight points to extend their lead to ten. Myrtle Point stayed with the Bruin boys late in the second period as the Bruin boys took a 29-20 lead into the locker room at the half.

Chase Bauer, #1, breaking down the defender.

Both teams made adjustments during the break and both teams hit for seven points in the first half of the third period. But in the second half of the third, the Bruin boys defense held Myrtle Point to just three points while putting up another seven offensively to take a thirteen point lead into the fourth.

Brody Bavaro, #45, taking the jump shot.

Establishing a 43-30 lead to start the fourth, the Bruin boys kept up the defensive pressure, keeping Myrtle Point from closing the gap. Myrtle Points eight points to close the final period were not enough as the Bruin boys finished strong with another ten points, taking the 53-39 win.

#3, Crew Watkins, starting the Azalea offense.
