Azalea Bruins Continue to Dominate with Second Win

The Azalea Middle School Bruin boys basketball team played their second team of their 2022 season Monday evening, hosting Marshfield at Azalea Arena.

Marshfield came out off the tip with a game plan to run with the high scoring AZ boys offense, and kept pace and in the game early.

But the AZ Bruin pressure defense again frustrated the oppositions offense, creating scoring opportunities from turn overs and fast break opportunities. Four AZ Bruins made into the scorebook in the first period of play with Nakiah Bonn #32 hitting for 6 points, and Noah Bond #10 hitting two buckets.

Zander Carlson, #15, starting the AZ Bruin fast break had 2 points on the night.

Holding a significant lead in the second period, the AZ Bruin defense applied more pressure, disrupting Marshfield’s rhythm, allowing Deryk Farmer #24, to add 8 points to his 8 points in the first period of play, giving the AZ Bruins a commanding lead into the half time break.

Deryk Farmer, #24, led all scorers for the second straight game with 34 points in the game.

The Azalea boys held onto their big lead into the second half of play, attempting to double team and isolate Farmer, who continued to challenge the Marshfield defense, adding 18 points in the second half of play.

The Bruins went on to take the 50-35 win for their second win of this early season, and will be on the road for the next three games, returning to Azalea Arena February 3rd, against Sutherlin.
