BHHS Head Coach Bavaro Talks about getting to ‘Game Week’

After almost an entire year of adjusting to a myriad restrictions, Coach Bavaro and his 2021 BHHS Bruin football team and other OSAA school sports programs prepare to begin an athletic journey that is undoubtedly uncharted territory, as an entire year of prep sports begins.

The Wild Coast Compass asked Coach Bavaro to about the challenges this year has posed and asked him to share a little about how he feels to finally get the season started. “Most of all, I’m really happy for the kids to get the opportunity to play this school year. We started last September just trying to get the kids some kind of season. It’s been a long time, and I’m especially excited for the seniors to be able to put the helmet on one more time.” he told the Compass.

“We have a lot of safety protocols that we have to do for Covid, but we’re willing to do it for the kids to be able to play. Nothing about this year has been the norm. We will do our best and always, the safety of our kids is the football programs #1 priority.”

“We’re still working out details on spectator and mask wearing under the helmet and the kids have done a nice job of adjusting as well.” he said.

“Using multiple resources and areas to conduct practice has changed the routine this year, and practice has looked a lot different. All the coaches have done a nice job of being organized and keeping the kids engaged at practice.”

“This BHHS 2021 varsity football team has used it’s time wisely this past year making major player and position adjustments,” Coach Bavaro said, “and we’re really excited to see all of the patience, hard work, sacrifices, and scheme changes these kids and staff have worked on come together as we go forward in the year.”

“We’ve always had our fingers crossed hoping we would get to play this school year, so, we’re excited for game week finally to start.”
