As spring sports begin to wind down, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

Jason Fulton, BHHS varsity girls track head coach, chose this weeks selection, introducing sophomore Kaiya Evans, to the community as whom he describe as, “the poster child for Star Student Athlete of the Week” program.

As s three sport varsity athlete, participating on head coach Brian Carlson’s varsity soccer program and head coach Kara Morris’ varsity girl basketball team, coach Fulton describes Kaiya as a “perfectionist, who leads by example, showing up early and stays late.

While playing three varsity sports, Kaiya has also managed a 4.0 cumulative GPA in multiple college prep courses including, General Biology, History of World War II, Global Studies, Honors Language Arts II, Leadership, Algebra II and Spanish II.

Being only a sophomore, Kaiya, who also a part of the National Honor Society, Rotary Interact, BHHS Leadership with more than 200 hours of community service, is understandably uncertain at this young stage of her sports career, as to which sport she would like to ‘focus’ on or which college institution she wishes to attend in her pursuit in a career as an athletic trainer, or her passion for cardiology.

“Aside from my school friends, I’m also close to both my church community and my sports families that provide the platforms and allow me to follow my ongoing advocacy of mental health equality and suicide prevention, and use my voice as a voice for others”, Kaiya told the Compass.

“Not only does Kaiya have an outstanding grade point average, buy I have her in two classes and she is top of her class in both.” coach Fulton said. “She wants anything she does in her life to be done correctly and puts great thought into projects where she shows her creativity, and reflects in her work ethic on the track. I am am very proud of the complete student that Kaiya Evans has become and young women can look to her as someone to emulate. We are looking forward to watching her compete for a chance to go to State in 100m, 200m and the 4×400 m Relay on May 22nd and May 23rd in Phoenix High School. – Head Coach Jason Fulton.

Congratulations Kaiya, we are confident that you will continue to excel in any future endeavors you should choose to pursue.

Special thanks to corporate sponsor Barron’s Home Furnishings, who make this recognition possible through out the year.
