With high school sports programs now well into their winter sports programs, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. This weeks selection, Grace Rosencrans, is the second freshman female wrestler to be chosen by BHHS Bruins wrestling head coach Marco Thorson in as many seasons. Grit, determination and hard work has led to an outstanding start to her High School career with a record of 14 wins and 1 loss.

As a two sport varsity athlete, freshman Grace Rosencrans participated on the Bruins girls varsity soccer team, earned her way onto coach Marco Thorson’s varsity wrestling team, and will also be participating in the Bruin girls softball program in the spring.

In Grace’s freshman debut for the Bruins wrestling team this year, she has placed first at the Del Norte Tournament, the Coquille Battle at the Devil’s Den Tournament, and the Sutherlin Girls Tournament, as well as taking third at the North Bend Coast Classic. With a record of 14 wins and 1 loss, Grace has won all of her matches via pin, on her way to defeating opponents from 14 different schools so far this season.

Excelling in all aspects of the ‘Star Student Athlete’ program, this weeks selection is another exceptional example of the Barron’s Star Student Athlete program, showing leadership, competitiveness, and work ethic volunteering her time for 4H projects as she balances her athletic participation while carrying a 3.0 GPA in college prep courses with the goal of becoming a flight attendant.

“Grace has worked hard,” coach Thorson told the Compass, “showing a toughness, and determination in her matches, putting herself in position to win, defeating upperclassmen several times. With her work ethic, and her continued success, Grace has a bright future ahead of her in girl’s wrestling.”

Congratulations Grace, we are confident that you will continue to be successful in any endeavor you should choose to pursue.

Special thanks to corporate sponsors Barron’s Home Furnishings and In Motion Graphics who make this recognition possible.
