With the fall school sports programs in full swing, the first Barron’s Home Furnishings ‘Star Student Athlete’ of the 2021/2022 school year has been selected. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

This weeks selection is a four year member on the Brookings-Harbor High School varsity girls volleyball team for her consistent outstanding performances on the volleyball court for head Coach Vanessa Nidiffer, and has set the bar high for all athletes moving into the school year.

Senior Jo Pryor #10, plays the position of ‘Libero’ for head coach Vanessa Nidiffer’s BHHS varsity girls volleyball team, who nominated Pryor for her determination, commitment, and leadership. “She is an incredibly talented player who digs and passes almost everything that comes her way, and she has a great sense of the game.” head coach Nidiffer said.

The ‘Libero’ position is a back-row defensive specialist position who wears a contrasting color jersey and is considered one of the most important positions on the court requiring quickness, digging, and passing with defensive responsibilities. According to head coach Nidiffer, Pryor “has amassed over 200 digs as of right now for the season, and is capable of getting kills from the back row and she’s one of our best servers.”

Pryor is also a senior member of the Brookings-Harbor varsity girls softball team for head coach Tony Baron, while carrying a full load of classes with a 3.5 grade point average, and intends to attend OIT next fall in pursuit of becoming a dental hygienist.

“Her tenacity and competitive nature has always driven Jo to be the best she can be on the court. Jo is a leader on and off the court, and I truly believe she is the best libero in the league this year. We are very lucky to have her in the program and she will be greatly missed next year!” – Head Coach Vanessa Nidiffer.

Congratulations Jo, we are confident that you will be successful in any endeavor you should choose to pursue.

Special thanks to corporate sponsors Barron’s Home Furnishings and In Motion Graphics who make this recognition possible.
