Brookings Fire & Rescue Dedicates New Training Facility

On Saturday, November 21st, the Brookings Fire & Rescue Department held a dedication ceremony at the new Training Grounds in the Brookings area. The event was attended by Fire Department members, the Brookings Mayor and City Council, past and present City Managers, the Public Safety Director, and a South Coast representative.

The event started with the Mayor, council, and Fire Chief doing a ribbon-cutting.

The training area has been in the approval and planning stages for about three years and now has an area for doing class A fire burns in conex boxes, a wildland firefighting training area and a rescue and ground ladder training facility. Future plans are for a dedicated area for vehicle extrication using hydraulic rescue tools and equipment.

Firefighters demonstrated the facility by doing a live-fire demonstration in the burn facility and rescue of a firefighter down in the rescue and ladder training facility.

The facility is a great asset for being able to have a dedicated area for training and honing the skills of the firefighters in the varying aspects of the job of firefighting and rescue.
