After being discussed by Brookings Football Association board members and coaches for a few years, the Association is excited to have been able to finally roll out their youth tackle football program’s first year.

Unexpected delays from the COVID protocols were worked through before extensive training and practice developed a group of 46 young boys and girls between 3rd and 6th grade for their first games.

Now over 4 weeks into their first season, the kids have made great strides in developing the skills to safely play tackle football.   Many of the children started with Brookings Football Association’s flag football program earlier this past summer, and this is next step in the programs progression.

The Compass asked one of the coaches how he has approached this coaching challenge…”I couldn’t have asked for a better group of kids, I want them to believe in themselves, that’s what drives me.” Coach Chris Winn told the Compass. “Great things can come from that,” he said. .

The Brookings Football Association’s first goal is to make learning and playing football fun, and by the smiles on the kids faces, the staff has done an outstanding job of maintaining that goal by patiently teaching and making the game of football fun.
